Intention behind *everything*

How I changed my approach to goal planning this year.

Welcome to Radhika’s Newsletter “INTENT”. This is your bi-weekly guide to purposeful living, wealth-building, and personal growth.

Happy New Year 🤍

There’s something uniquely beautiful about this time of year. Everything feels quieter, more still, and full of possibility. It’s like everything you do has a little more meaning, and the excitement of starting fresh is just… real. I’m obsessed with it.

You may know this already but I’ve always been a BIG resolutions person. Ever since I can remember, my goals were clear and concrete:

  • Invest in a property before I turn 24

  • Run 26 miles before I turn 26

  • Get a promotion in 2026

And honestly, that's what I liked about it. There was always a milestone to hit, something to achieve.

This year, though, something feels different.

For the first time, it’s been harder to come up with a new resolution. Not because I’m stuck, but because I’m genuinely happy with where I am. I haven’t reached all my goals yet, but I’m deeply in the process of becoming the person who will. And it's that process that I want to dive deeper into.

It actually reminds me of something my peers at work often discuss with leadership:
Great leaders don’t change goals every six months. They set a direction and reinforce it consistently.

That’s exactly how this season of my life feels. I’ve spent years refining my mission. Understanding who I want to be. Clarifying what truly matters to me. And for the first time, I don’t want to change my goals.

I want to keep them and turn up the dial.

Intention Matters

That realization has brought me an unexpected amount of peace. So I want to return to a word that’s always mattered deeply to me: intent.

Everything comes back to intention: the intention behind our goals, our conversations, our meals, our budgets, our relationships, our families. The why behind what we do.

When I look back at the goals I’ve achieved, intention played a massive role. I’m not perfect, and there are always other factors at play but clarity of intent has consistently moved me forward.

Because of that, this year I want to go deeper into the intention behind everything. You can expect the newsletters to dive into different topics and here’s a small sneak peek of what’s coming:

  • The intention behind growing your wealth

  • The intention behind creating a consistent schedule

  • The intention behind choosing the right life partner

There's more to come and feel free to share your ideas/requests too!

How I Planned This Year

This year also looked very different for me in how I approached planning.

Normally, I spend Thanksgiving and winter break deeply entrenched in goal-setting. I ideate, talk to people, do research, run scenarios and then narrow down a few goals to focus on.

Last year, though, both breaks were filled with work and travel. I burned out.

This past weekend, my fiancé (yes! I'm engaged now!!! 💍 (BIG NEWS)) and I did something different. We took a long weekend road trip to the mountains and stayed in a quiet cabin.

The first day was about rest. Comfort food. Our favorite movie. Video games. Letting our minds and bodies fully relax.

The next day, we reviewed our 2025 goals and reflected on how far we’ve come. We paused to actually celebrate that moment and be proud of where we are. Gratitude is sooo important.

Then we zoomed out. I’ve learned that planning 10 or 20 years ahead can feel overwhelming. One year can feel too short. Five years feels just right.

We talked about what we want the next five years of our lives to look like:

  • Where we might live

  • Marriage and family

  • Career paths and new opportunities

  • Financial and net-worth goals

  • Friendships, hobbies, and how we want our days to actually feel

After a short hiking break (because too much thinking isn’t good for you either 😌), we came back and opened up our one-year calendar.

Mapping out 2026 felt surprisingly easy. We'd already talked about the bigger picture, now it was really about what we want this year to look like. We talked through non-negotiables, reach goals, and how we can best support one another.

The reason I’m sharing this isn’t to suggest this is the “right” way but to highlight the intention behind it.

We could’ve passed the weekend without meaning, and that would’ve been okay. There’s a time and place for rest without structure. But this time, we intentionally created space for conversations that matter.

We came back feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and deeply supported.

I highly, highly recommend trying something like this - either on your own or with your partner. Ideally somewhere in nature, where it’s easier to feel grounded and connected.

I know that’s not always feasible. So here’s my best attempt at bringing a little of that nature to you: 🌿

I'm also curious: Is there a goal you’re not changing this year but doubling down on instead?
